Register AV failed

Several times over the last couple days I’ve gotten an alert from Windows (8.1 Pro) that neither Windows Defender nor Avast is running, but Avast does not appear to have stopped. Each time I get the following in Avast’s EventLog.log:

10/7/2014	10:56:24 AM	[00000354] Register AV failed 80070467 While accessing the hard disk, a disk operation failed even after retries.

This seems to be benign, but I wanted to be sure there wasn’t some larger problem I need to address. I’m running program version 2014.9.0.2021 and virus definitions version 1410007-1.

Try a repair…Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click “avast”>click “repair”>reboot.
