I, as well as others, had the same problem, so I can empathize with you. Thank you for posting the screen shots.
What worked for me was to do an uninstall with the Avast Uninstaller Tool http://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility and a fresh install > reboot > register > do your definition updates and set your settings.
You can try rebooting and then try registering and see if this helps, but you may have to do what I did. Let us now how you do. Thank you.
I have the same problem but, seriously? Remove and re-install the whole program to make a registration key work? Um, no. How about they fix the algorithm that produces bad keys to produce valid ones? While you are at it fix the illegible CAPTCHA. That only took me nine tries.
It’s been a long time since I have been here but surely they (Avast) must monitor the boards for problems like this. If there are three of us with this problem you know there are a thousand.
Rather than trying to insert the emailed key have you tried just clicking the register tab on the main UI ? I did two avast installs this morning and registering via the GUI has worked perfectly.
I believe you only have to do this the first 3 posts.
As for the other problem, yes there are others who have experienced it and have voiced their opinion on it. I do not know why it is happening, but you are correct in that Avast does look at the forum, so they should be aware of this problem.
@ CraigB, The register button doesn’t always work in the UI, causing much frustration. I found the uninstall/install as a resolution to my problem when I experienced it. Perhaps it is the OS, but it is the same Avast version. It bears Avast looking into.
The register button within the program fails if you use MVPSHosts or a similar hosts ad blocking file. The registration apparently accesses some Google servers which are blocked in MVPSHosts. This has happened before in an earlier release and was fixed. There should be no reason for them to route registation requests via Google but it seems they do.
