When I try to register Avast (free) I get a registration page in Finnish. I am in Finland but I don’t speak Finnish. I want the registration form to be in English, the same as the earlier web pages and the same as the language I have specified in Avast. Why change it?
Are you able to change the language through settings ? see picture, see if english is in the drop down and if not you can install english
Sorry i misunderstood you i think, your avast is in english but just the registration is showing in finnish?
It is obviously using some sort of geo-location to detect the language of the country you are in. That I presume would be because you are using the off-line registration.
Are you registering from the on-line registration option in the avastUI, Maintenance, Registration ?
That should pop-up a form within avast and should be in the language of the current avast installation.
Yes exactly, my Avast is in English and just the registration form is showing in Finnish. I have tried both the online and offline registration options in the avastUI, Maintenance, Registration.
This issue started when I was notified that my registration period was coming to an end and I got the option to re-register. I followed that and got to a form headed in English “AVAST! FREE ANTIVIRUS REGISTRATION”. The content of the form, though, is in Finnish. I couldn’t get around that. Using the drop-down box to change from Finland to UK does not change the displayed language of the form.
My next approach was to uninstall Avast, then download and install afresh. Then I am asked to register and that takes me to the same form.
Finally I tried “requesting a registration key by filling in our web-based registration form”. This attempts to connect my browser to http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php but that failed - it could not connect to the web site.
If you get redirected to a Finnish language page on that URL, check out this image (click to expand) for the English language to help you complete it.
Maybe changing the available languages of your web browser, and the priority of the listed languages, the web page will automatically change the language accordingly?
I know it happened to me in the past, but using other sites, not the web registration form.
I’m afraid that’s a feature. The registration dialog is an online content (it’s not hardcoded into the program, but rather downloaded from our server) - and the language of the online content is set according to Windows locale, not the avast! language.
I don’t think it’s really a good idea, but that’s how it is.
Is there no way to force the loading of and English page, e.g. like the old website wXw.avast.com/en/registration-free-antivirus.php ?
The content is shown inside of avast! window, you cannot change the URL there.
What if you just use it as in the off-line registration through your browser and have the email sent in the old fashioned way ?
There has to be some sort of manual registration workaround for instances like this or I can see more of these in the forums.
When I did eventually get the web-based registration to load, it was in English. So it is only the registration dialog that swaps to Finnish. It is a very stupid feature (bug).
