I’ve had this problem twice now. I click on “Register Now”, I click to register a free version (none of the images fully load quickly enough so I just click the spot where the button is), and I see network activity on the task manager. But nothing happens. It just fails to load any registration form and sits there like it’s incapable of handling dialup connections.
I’ve had Avast on before, but I dumped it when it wanted me to re-register. It seems like it was possible to register in the interface in the previous version.
I submitted the offline form and will wait for it to arrive.
Vista Ultimate, Windows Firewall, HostsMan, and Prevx (free). 33.2 Kbps.
Thanks for such an excellent and slick product, even if it irks me and makes me try out the competition on each re-registration.
Click on the Register button in the ‘ad’ “Stay with Avast! Free Antivirus” and the online form will come up. Complete it and you should be registered immediately.
Try a repair. Control panel…add/remove…double click “avast”…scroll to “repair”…re-boot.
This does seem to work “most of the time”. If not, maybe someone with more stars than me will find this thread.
@ Para-Noid, the OP doesn’t need to Repair at this time. The OP has dial-up, and the screen shot that was given to him by Gopher John needs to be answered by the OP.
Many users miss this button on the bottom of the page in the screen shot, where it tells you to register now or I have a key. This is why a Repair is not needed at this time.
@ DialupRules, Please answer the question posted to you by Gopher John and look at the link to the screen shot. Thank you.
Yes. Well, I clicked on the spot where the free registration box would appear (because it hadn’t fully loaded the images yet). I registered Avast on my laptop over wireless so I knew where the command boxes would appear.
On my desktop, (1) I clicked register from the interface, (2) the registration popup box partially loaded and I clicked on free register, (3) it disappeared as if it accepted my choice, (4) I observed network activity on the task manager for an extended period of time, and (5) it simply went back to the interface and network activity dropped to zero as if nothing was accomplished. I then re-clicked on the register button from the interface and went through the same process a couple of times. No luck.
By the way, I did this same process a few weeks ago, gave up, and installed Panda. My original Avast was painfully downloaded over dialup and had been on my PC for a year. On the same computer, I had no problem registering from within the interface a year ago, but it wouldn’t let me re-register. But I didn’t like Panda much, so I downloaded another Avast setup file to try again. I had the same registration problem this time and had to register offline, which was successful.
I have a third computer that I could try it again on if there is something else to try.
