I’ve got a problem registering Avast, it was running for a year on my PC with XP with no problems, I then got the message that it would expire and I had to re-register, but whenever I got the dialogue box up and attempted to do this, I couldn’t enter anything in the box, no matter where I clicked all I got was the windows error ‘bonging’ sound, I then had to ‘ctrl, alt, delete’ to get rid of it, in the end I waited until it expired, uninstalled it and downloaded a new copy, version 5.0.545, unfortunately the new copy expires in 19 days and the same problem has come up again, has anyone any suggestions please.

It is the free version, I’ve the license number to register with, but when I open the program dialogue box to insert it, the whole Avast program just locks up and I have to shut it down with ‘ctrl, alt’, delete.
So did you read the guide for the free version…??

Yes, I’ve read and tried both methods, on the ‘on line registration’ I can get as far as ‘Avast free registration’ but it will not let me enter any details on the registration form, on the ‘off line registration’ I can get as far as pasting my license number in but no further, in both cases the only way I can shut them down as they are not responding is to use the Windows Task Manager.
So there seems to be a conflict on you system.
Please post any security related software running on your machine…!

The only security software I have is ‘Windows Firewall’ which I have switched off, and I have uninstalled ‘Adaware’, ‘Malwarebytes’ and ‘Spybot’, it is all ok until I enter the license key number, as soon as I do that the Avast window locks up.
Run the uninstall utility in safe mode and reinstall avast afterwards.

No difference, removed Avast in safe mode and re-installed, the program itself works but I cannot register it.
Strange. Sorry, out of ideas.
