Hey folks, someone needs to fix the registration page or something. Sometimes, it can take ages for this thing to work. I tried to get it to work for someone whos on dialup a few weeks ago. I had to do the same thing about 6 times, and gave it, it didnt work. Even tho everything was filled out. I then tried once with broadband, and it worked the 1st time. And I filled the form out the other day,(for myself), it said it was sending the registration. This was like over 36 hrs ago ! And I still havent received the email, with the registration for Avast Home
I have never had any issues with it and I use dial-up, some however experience problems that I feel are unrelated to the connection method.
In such cases I normally suggest that they use the SSL Registration Page: https://secure.avast.com/scripts/register.php?lang=ENG.
As for non-receipt of registration email, that is normally down to an overzealous anti-spam filter (usually ISP/email server) and for that it is suggested to try a different email address (different domain). a free webmail account from gmail or yahoo, etc. usually resolves that.
Dont use spam filters, (i dont use the ISP spam filter), so thats not the prob
ISPs have some very sneaky practices as some of them filter spam without your knowledge. Many people have expressed exactly the same thing, they don’t use a spam filter and neither does their ISP, yet their email wasn’t getting through.
One way to prove it one way or another is to do as suggested try a different email address.
No dont think so its off, I’ve received email from Avast before. No prob at all. Just not now. Someone needs to fix the site or the way regs are sent to email addresses. I shouldnt HAVE to change email addresses. Forget it. If Avast cant fix their probs. I wont be using their products
If you don’t try another address you will never know exactly where the fault lies, I can’t understand your reluctance.
For the very greatest majority of users the registration/re-registration isn’t an issue or this forum would be absolutely buzzing about it and that simply isn’t the case.
Your system your choice.
Apologies David. I gave my normal ISP email when I first requested a key, it didnt arrive (within 24 hrs). So, I did it again, and gave my gmail email. It was received by gmail. (I checked the gmail site earlier today). However Ive got it so it’ll forward to my ISP email. It looks like when it tried to forward my key to my ISP email server, it rejected it. Because it said it was a phishing email (from the register.avast email addy). And then it deleted it. Why I have no idea. It hasnt happened before. So, I’ve been in touch with my ISP and theyre trying to figure out WHY it picked the avast addy up, as a phishing email
An apology isn’t necessary - As I said, the things your ISP get up to behind your back to supposedly help you would surprise you (and it appears it has), which is why I suggested the alternative address.
Well looks like the ISP have NO idea, whats causing it. I sent them a copy of what Gmail said yesterday. Have yet to hear back from them. It has worked previously (emails from Avast), so its not something the ISP have done deliberately
If they employ anti-spam or other security tools against all email then they are going to get this type of thing happening. What I don’t like is that many ISPs do this in the dark completely removing emails rather than putting them in a spam or suspect folder so that the user can at least make the decision themselves.
These tools can be tweaked so at not to be so sensitive or can be tweaked too much to catch lots of innocent emails.
ISPs email servers are swamped by spam as a very high percentage of all email is spam, some reckon as much as 80% or more. Their problem is that they have to have enough allocated server space to store all this before the user downloads their email. This costs money, so many of them take this action to reduce that requirement.
