Registration Key NOT Received

Okay, it’s going now on almost 2 weeks since I did that major Tweaking & Maintenance on these friends’ computer. Among other things, after Uninstalling their 2 Anti-Viruses, I installed avast! and I personally Registered it myself. Since neither of the 2 are computer-savvy, I told them to let me know as soon as they received the E-mail from avast! with the Registration Key, which was supposed to arrive within 24 hours. Like I said, it’s now almost 2 weeks and supposedly No Registration Key E-mail has been received yet from avast! by them.

Really only the guy uses the computer. And I have found out since then that he is a lot less computer savvy and a LOT less AOL savvy than what I even thought. I just found out that really the guy only logs on to AOL and then goes to Yahoo.com and does all his Browsing / Surfing from there. He really doesn’t mess with AOL. He has his E-mail through Yahoo. So, I just found out that he really doesn’t even know how to navigate the AOL Mailbox. Now I’m theorizing there’s a strong possibility that the guy somehow inadvertently Deleted the Registration Key E-mail from avast! from his AOL Mailbox since he’s NOT really familiar with the workings of it.

What’s the next step? Should I just Register their avast! again?
Or would another Registration NOT take because one has already been inititated?
Or do I have to E-mail that avast! Support E-mail Address?

Also, can absolutely ANY E-mail Address be used in the Registration, no matter whose AOL Account it is? As long as it’s a working E-mail Address, it should be OK, right? Okay, if the Account is obviously an AOL Account … can the guy still use his Yahoo E-mail Address and the Registration will go through and the Registration Key will be received in his Yahoo E-mail Address?

Hi…

Try reregistering again. From my experience, the registration codes are sent within 10-15 minutes from the point you actually request a code. Stay at his computer and wait for the code.

Please take a look at this thread concerning the same issue…

I can’t speak for the free version but for the Pro version, Alwil won’t send registration codes to addresses that contain “Yahoo” or other similar web based e-mail services. This may have changed, though, as I had this experience a few years ago.

Hope this help.

I agree with you, Ard. When I received the Registration Key for MY computer’s avast!, I remember I received it within THAT day, I believe. That’s why I’m leaning more towards that the guy inadvertently deleted the avast! E-mail. I KNOW when I was there, I saw the E-mail number in his Inbox was 16. As per a phone call a while ago, apparently right now there’s only ONE E-mail in his Inbox. And I did see evidence this past Sunday that the guy didn’t really know how to navigate the AOL Mailbox. So, I’m thinking somewhere between when I was first there 2 weeks ago … and right now, the guy must have taken a quick scan of his Inbox … deemed it all Junk and gone on some wild E-mail Deleting Frenzy and in the process deleted the avast! E-mail. This because maybe 2 weeks ago, he thought / assumed that the Registration Key would arrive in his Yahoo E-mail Address. He probably didn’t know I meant for him to be on the look out in his AOL E-mail Address for the Key.

No Yahoo Addresses, Eh? Then again, on that link, which you provided, DavidR suggests trying a Yahoo E-mail Address. I won’t be at their house until this Saturday. I’ll try Registering again with the guy’s Yahoo E-mail Address and see what happens.

While I was there 2 weeks ago, I did notice his Settings were set to accept ALL Mail. And on the phone call this afternoon, I talked them through how to find and look in the Spam Folder. Nothing was in there.

I just thought of a Plan C if Plan B doesn’t work. If the Yahoo E-mail Address doesn’t work, I could try Registering their avast! a 3rd time and enter MY E-mail Address since I know that one DID receive MY Registration Key last year … and that I do know how to navigate the AOL Mailbox so as to FIND the avast! E-mail in there.

Thanks for the Input, Ard.

Hi…

Well, bear in mind, this was for the paid professional version several years ago, the free version will probably accept any e-mail address you give it.

Please post back and let us know how it goes.

I’m not sure, but I think Pro and Home version do not discriminate the email address.
Maybe the Pro, due to antipiracy policy. But I’m almost sure they both accept any email.

This isn’t the case, for years I have been suggesting users that aren’t receiving the registration key that they use a different address. Guess what I suggest a free yahoo account and it has been working with boring regularity, they receive their registration key.

Only yesterday I suggested this and worked in a few minutes the registration email was in their yahoo inbox.

As far as I’m aware avast doesn’t differentiate or discriminate on domain names that it sends registration emails to. This is not the case with many ISPs that block emails and never notify the user that it was blocked and AOHell has received bad press for this in the past.

Thanks, David. I will definitely try Registering their avast! with the Yahoo E-mail Address if I go up there on Saturday. I have to do some other stuff to their computer. So, hopefully while I’m doing that, the Registration Key will be received so I won’t have to wait till another day to insert it.

You’re welcome.

Don’t forget that they can use the demo key (part of the installation) for 60 days unrestricted use of avast, so there is no immediate rush, plenty of time to resolve the registration problem.

All,

I registered about 30 mins ago and received my key in Yahoo! mailbox in about 20 mins. ;D :-*

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi David…

Um…this was the case as Alwil specifically told me at that time not to use a web based address like yahoo as the key would not be received despite the fact I tried it anyway. ::slight_smile:

I remember very well and like I said, Alwil probably changed their policy after I went through this.

Best Regards…

I can only go by personal experience of those using it to get round their ISPs spam filtering. I never asked avast if it was OK as you did.

Hi…

I’m going by personal experience, too. My experience had nothing to do with ISP’s or spam filtering but rather Alwil telling me not to use addresses from yahoo or sites like that as they were not going to send the key if the address contained their names. It was for my best friend’s copy of avast Pro, and she was using yahoo for her e-mail service, so we had to have Alwil send the key to my e-mail address.

Best Regards…

I just registered a new version today ( to attempt a repair ) and recieved my key in gmail in a couple minutes.

Registering today (renewing) and received the key less than one minute later…

YES! SUCCESS! The avast! Registration Key was received on my friend’s Yahoo Address. Thanks to the cornucopia of expertise at the avast! Forum.

You’re welcome, thanks for the feedback.

Glad that you’ve won
