Registration

I registered and was sent a reg #. However it says it is invalid.
I both copied and pasted, and then typed it in myself. same result either way. Can anyone help me.

Do you have the system time (date) set correctly?

If changing the time doesnt work, try reinstalling.

When using copy and paste ensure that you don’t include a trailing space after the key.

Has Avast! considered to just automatically implement a random key generator when someone uses the program - like AVG does so that registration isn’t required?

I think not… They want manual registration with the web form.

Tech We're taking about program registration not forum registration. ;D

Sorry Tech

web form
I misread. :-[ Thanks David for pointing it out. :)

I think that is what Tech is talking about, you register on-line using a web form to enter your details, email, etc. you submit the form details and you get sent an email.

Never mind 8)
David explained better my mind

I don’t understand why though, I think it deters some users from using the product.

IMHO, I believe that makes it their loss… ;D ;D

If you issued automatic registration keys, you don’t get any idea of geographic location of users the manual registration shows actual people (not just downloads), which also helps to evaluate server loads for VPS and Program updates.

It certainly isn’t a lengthy or intrusive registration.

Just a curiosity, why doesn’t Alwil just trace back the IP addresses of the computers connecting for update or download? Can’t you know where is the user by his IP? Of course I can use an annonimizer but it’s not common…

What about having the registration form built into the program?

At the end of the avast install, why not have the form come up and ask the user to register to use the program for free, otherwise use it as a 60 day demo?
They then fill out the form, Alwil gets the details they want, and the program registers itself without the messy business of checking email and cutting and pasting, which can be very confusing for complete computer novices.

Problems will be the off-line computers…

Good suggestion.

Maybe two ways, on-line and off-line…
Something is telling me that they won’t change anything as this does not seem to be a priority ;D

Maybe the program can store the info until it goes online.

True, true

I’ll still suggest this in the wishlist thread

Not only AVG but Antivir too.

By the way, Antivir 7 is incompatible with avast: P2P, IM and Standard Shield will be disabled EVEN you do not install Antivir Guard.
