When trying to remotely control my phone with my.avast.com it only works if Wi-Fi is enabled. When disabled the following notification appears: “We are not able to connect to your phone”. I.e. the remote control doesn’t seem to work over the mobile network. When Wi-Fi is on I am able to lock the phone, send messages etc.
The phone is Nexus 5 with the latest Android i.e. Lollipop. For most of the applications the background data is set as off but for Avast Anti-Theft (and for Avast Mobile Security) it is set as on. AAT is set as administrator. Phone is not rooted.
What to do to make the remote control over the mobile network working?
Yes, I can see that not all of the characteristics are available for non-rooted phone. It seems to be the case for the option “force data connection on” as well. Anyway during all my testing the data connection over the 4G mobile network has been enabled. But only with Wi-Fi the remote control works. That makes me suspect that the problem is related to the background data use. Should I allow some other applications to use the background data? Or should I really really root the phone?
