Remote Workers on VPN

  1. Is it possible for specific workstations to be configured to download the database updates from Avasts servers direct, instead of our own main server. This would be massively useful for remote workers with limited VPN bandwidth.

  2. What ports does Avast communicate on so that I can allow them in the firewall for cross-network traffic.

Thanks, Mark

short answers

  1. yes this is possible
  2. read the manual

long answer

  1. In the SBC console you can set group settings, somewhere in there is the option to have the client look for internet updates when it cant find the SBC server in the network.

  2. see the manual

  1. Unfortunately, its only an option if it cannot get it from our main server, rather than telling it always should ignore our server.

  2. Will have a look over my lunch 8)

Thanks, Mark

  1. true, but no other options, which is ofcourse logical for a business product that is meant to centralize management and updates…

  2. goodluck with the reading

yeah, just put the computers into 2 groups, group one points to avast servers group two pointing to your own or where ever,.

There is MirrorURL property in Expert Settings of a Group. If connection to this URL fails then client will try to connect avast servers directly (of course, if you check the update from internet if mirror fails.
