Removed SIMM, now phone thinks it's stolen

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, which was getting slow so I upgraded to a Galaxy Note 4. I got the new phone on Friday, 24 Apr 2015. With the assistance of my phone company’s customer service, I transferred the SIMM card from the S3 to the new phone. When I turned the S3 back on to get the rest of my files, it went nuts with a siren and a voice continually repeating that my phone was either lost or stolen, I suppose because the SIMM card had been removed. I couldn’t even turn it off. I finally opened it up and took the battery out.

What do I do? I want to give that phone to my sister but it’s useless at this point. And have my files been zapped?
