Hi, can anyone help, I can’t remove certain programs when using Add/Remove programs in Windows XP (such as Quicktime and Morpheus)… how can I get these programs removed… any help would be appreciated.
Most likely you haven’t uninstalled them properly because both programs here on my machine can be normally uninstalled through the Add-Remove console.
Reinstall those two programs from the scratch and then properly uninstall them again.
Also, are you sure you have administrator rights on that account where you’re trying to uninstall those programs ? If they are installed under some account with admin rights, you may need to uninstall them from there.
i also have a problem like this…
when i try to get it away from add/remove it says:
C:blabla/unins.dat don’t exists.
how can you remove it?
Usually by visiting the web site and seeing if they have an uninstall tool or manual uninstall instructions.
Or by a google search for manual uninstall blablabla, etc.
If this doesn’t provide a solution, then brute force and ignorance seems to work. However, ensure that any startup or services are disabled before deleting the programs folder and run a registry checker to get rid of redundant registry entries.
the page are gone…
the program contains mp3, games etc
i tried with ccleaner (tools), but the same happened.
but i can get the program away with just delete it from program folder, yes?
thanks for the help
Your welcome.
Yes Tanya, you can but that’s NOT the proper way of removing applications installed on your system. You have to uninstall them properly, and that’s the main reason why you are unable now to remove some programs from within Add/Remove programs console. Uninstallation information are gone…
Best thing you can do is to find those programs on the internet, reinstall them again, and then properly uninstall them through Add/Remove Programs console…
Cheers !
You can also remove redundant entries in the Add Remove list (if you have removed them using an alternative method) with TweakUI I believe (if that is an issue), less hassle than reinstalling the program and using add remove to uninstall it again.
I believe that CCleaner uses the same file to uninstall that add remove does, it even gets its list of programs that can be uninstalled from the same source as add remove. So if the uninstall file is missing, add remove will have the same problem.
Yes TweakUI used to have that option, at least version for Windows 98. I certainly can not find that option in this latest version for Windows XP… that is also caused by the fact that in Windows XP, even if those programs are incorrectly uninstalled (partically deleted from the hard drive and not using proper uninstall procedure), once you try to uninstall them from within Add/Remove console, it will report that it’s unable to proceed with uninstallation… but… but, it should offer an option to REMOVE that entry from the Add/Remove list… and it will do that without any problems.
At least that’s how it works on my system.
Also, I’m telling this 'cause I remember that Tanya mentioned that she uses Windows XP.
Cheers !
