Renewal Issues - now Resolved

(see my lastest post, dated today 24/9/2010)

I’ve a paid subscription valid to 4 Nov 2010. Avast recently sent me an eMail to renew now, at a discount. I did so, but only after having paid did the next, download webpage reveal that the licence code would take effect from the date of purchase. Sure enough, when I entered the licence code I am now ‘renewed’ for just 12 montha from today 22 Sept 2010 - ie. I’ve lost about 1.5 months worth of subscription. That is not a renewal.

I’ve raised this by eMail to Avast Support and am still awaiting response which I will update to here when received.

So, beware - looks like one must pay for and ‘renew’ an Avast product only on the same day as it expires, or be out of pocket … ???

Did you purchase directly from alwill or through a reseller?
It can make a difference. So please let us know.

Hello,

Could you give me a ticket number that you have submitted to avast! support or just your email address? Do not worry, we will check the issue and resolve it quickly.

@ Petr Bucek,

Who are you to ask this without giving more information about yourself? Are you a reseller of Avast? Please identify yourself because right now it looks more like a scam until further information is given. No user will or should publically give an email address on a forum. Thank you.

@ jasward or anyone else - Do not respond to Petr Bucek’s question as we do not know if he/she really works with Avast until it is verified. Thank you.

Erm, I think there’s no need for such a level of paranoia.
Yes, Petr Bucek is one of the employees - but even if he wasn’t, I don’t see what an “attacker” could do with a ticket number…

Well, it would be nice if we can recognise ( new ) Avast employees on this forum, as we can recognise you

Greetz, Red.

igor,

Thank you for the clarification, but I think Petr Bucek should have done that in his post to avoid confusing the issue.

As Rednose commented, new employees should also identify themselves. We deal with spammers on this forum and it is not unreasonable to be asking for clarification. Thank you.

The Avast forum Admin(s) should identify ( new ) Avast employee’s, and give them their status on this forum

Greetz, Red.

He was also asking for an email which rose the suspicion and not having avast team member next to his name. Plus i thought avast team member’s had avast email’s not hotmail, maybe i thought wrong ???

Just give him the requested information in a private message so he can solve the problem.

Hi guys, Petr is with us already for several years. I am sure, we can sort this out and recreate his account with avast email.

BTW, if we are talking about forum manners, I have spotted that some users here use the “report to moderator” feature, which is great. In case we have some suspicious issue, like this one, please use the comment field, don’t leave it empty, or don’t fill some meaningless words, like: “subject”, “comment”, your email, or such. It helps finding the more important ones in the bunch of reported topics each day. Thanks guys.

Lukas.

You are right, I am sorry. I had two profiles and used my personal one before - it has been already deleted to avoid any future misunderstandings.

to @ jasward Could you post your ticket number or some other relevant info in order to find the ticket that you have sent us? Thank you.

Hi PetrB, and apologies to all for what turns out to be an error on my part - as I now understand after having already had my concern dealt with most swiftly by the Avast! support area (big kudos to them).

It turns out that my subscription - as purchased two years ago - in fact would normally have expired already, but showed a November 2010 expiry date because … (well, I’ll just copy the support area response which explains) …
“Your previous license was bought on Sep/03/2008 and it was valid for 2 years. The license still works for 2 extra months to ensure you are not unprotected till you renew. The new license is valid from Sep/22/2010 till Sep/22/2011 because you renewed for one year. There was no licensing time lost from your side.”

I then dug through my archived eMail records and discovered that is indeed so … I didn’t realise the product automatically extended itself by an extra two months.

Good on you Avast!
