Renewing License

I’m running Avast 6.0.1367 (engine 120211-1). My license was running out at the end of this month. I renewed and went to the page where you download the new install and license file. I downloaded both. I just updated my existing Avast install with the license file. I noticed that the new install is about twice as large as my last install. Should I de-install the existing install of Avast and install from the newer install file, or will it give me the same version I’ve got now?

Thanks

not virus engine...but virus definitions http://www.avast.com/virus-update-history

what avast do you have…avast free / avast PRO / avast AIS (avast internet security)

you dont have to download and install again…

if you have avast free…you just register again to get a new free year

if you have PRO or AIS you have to buy a new license…for the amount of year you want

The difference is mostly the new definitions, which are bigger than before. Once in a while, they may be rebuilt anew, compressing the total size again.

So, no worries. Your version is the same, 6.0.1367.

A different question is if you had, for example, Avast Pro, and you purchased a new AIS (upgraded). The size might be a little bit different, but most of the difference in size is still, the definitions updates.

Thanks for the information
I’m running Avast Internet Security. My three PC licenses were just running to the end and I needed to renew.
It sounds like from what you guys are saying, I don’t need to reinstall. Just update with the new license?

yes...it is the license you pay for.....buy a new, insert and you are good for....the amount of years you buy

and when avast 7 is released…you can upgrade to that for free

That is correct, when you receive your new license file, you enter that into avast in the same way you did before. That extends your license period.
