Renewing Subsription

Hi
Have notification that my subscription is about to expire but nothing happens when i press the renew and upgrade button ?
I currently havePro antivirus 7.01

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
Does it change anything in the subscription process?

No -It made no difference.Ran repair and notice at the end stating that there was an error in the configuration

Can you post the full text of the error message ?

Ran repair again and finished ok without error.
Tried to renew and upgrade but still nothing happens. My license has no expiry date but update for license is 30th June.
?

Also, every time a check post or go to reply I get the following message
An error hasoccured in the script on this page
Line 76
Char 5
Error invalid pointer
Code 0
URL://forum.avast.com?Themes/default/scripts/theme/.js?fin20
Then asks if i want to keep running scripts on this page and I tick Yes
Not sure if this has any bearing

What is the full version you have installed? Was this new install or an upgrade?

Do you have anything installed on your machine to disable scripts (example NoScript) or use a browser that asks you about scripts (example Firefox)?

I have purchased avast in the past and upgraded and renewed when close to expiry.Have 7 avast Pro Antivirus 7.0.1426.
had a problem a while ago where avast was not working and had remote control help-not sure what they did. use internet explorer and firefox but not sure if they ask about scripts. Also not aware of anything on computer disabling scripts -is this something that should be fixed?

OK…you have the current version. I was asking about scripts to see if you had anything blocking it, that’s all…don’t worry about it.

What browser do you use?

To clarify, after doing the Avast Repair, this did NOT fix your problem?

What other security software have you had on this machine in the past and now?

No it did not fix and using mostly explorer and firefox. Used to have norton but that is a long time ago

To be sure that you have no remnants left from Symantec, which it often leave behind upon removal, please run the Symantec Uninstaller Tool which you can find from this site: http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/.

After rebooting your machine, you can then go into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly upon boot up), once in Safe Mode go to Advance Search > enter “sym” into the search box and see if anything comes up relating to Symantec or Norton. Do the same but type in symlcbrd.sys , which is a Symantec Core Service BIOS reader. Do it again but type in Symantec, and again but type in NIS or NAV (depending on what you had installed on the machine). If you are uncertain of the files that come up on the search, right click on the file to show you Properties and you can tell if it belongs to Symantec…if it does you can delete it then empty your recycle bin and restart your machine. If all comes up clean, then you know you finally got rid of the remnants. Restart your machine.

If you did have to make changes to your machine based on the above, please report back and let us know if this fixed your problem. If you did not have to make changes to your machine because no remnants were found, I suggest an Avast Uninstall/clean install at this point to fix your problem using the Avast Uninstaller Tool → http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility . Reboot. Register your product.

Let us know how you do. Thank you.

Hi .Trieto run the remval tool but bot the message extraction failed- File is corrupt so have not got got any further than your first bit.Can not get anwhere with remote assistance as well -nothing happens when i press the command?

Hi ,
Spending hours trying to fix.
Have sent three ticket requests for help in the past five days with no reply.
The support page on ny interface does not work when I push -check FAQ,Visit Forums etc
I go to avast website to log in and still cannot upgrade .
Would go with remote assistance but can not get to anyone at avast?
The Licence is non expiring but subscription is expiring in 5 days and can not upgrade or renew using normal buttons?

For each ticket request, it bumps it lower down the chronological order.

In all honesty you are better sticking to the forums.
Given what you have said and the problems experienced I believe there is something wrong with your installation, so it may be best to do a clean reinstall (that later, depending on answers).

This is somewhat confusing as to where you are trying to renew your subscription from, mainly because I don’t have the Pro version.

What happens if you try using the avastUI (open from the avast tray icon), Maintenance, Subscription. There should be a renew option there, is that present and or was that what you were trying ?

I suspect you are trying from the renewal popup notice ?
If so there may be something blocking that process, what is your operating system and firewall ?

@ danihart01,

DavidR is correct in that we can fix your problem quicker here than opening up several tickets.

I agree at this point that an uninstall and fresh install is your best option at this point.

  1. Save a copy of your Avast Pro Antivirus 7.0.1426 on your HDD. (Keep it where it is now on your machine so you know where it is)
  2. Download the Avast Uninstaller Tool http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD. When you uninstall, make sure you uninstall every product and version of Avast you had on this machine and reboot in between each uninstall.
  3. Reboot.
  4. Install Avast Pro Antivirus 7.0.1426 and reboot.
  5. Get Internet access and add the license key for Pro while online.
  6. Update the Avast definitions.

Let us know if this fixes your problem. Also let us know what firewall you are using. Make sure your firewall is not blocking anything for Avast. Thank you.

Hi Thanks for the replies
Windows firewall is on but I believe that does not cause issues.
Have tried installing from both pop up and using Avast UI and going to Maintenance ,subsription. without success.
Will try uninstalling and following these last instructions later on tognight after I come home from work
Many Thanks
