Repated call saying microsoft contracted tech support

I have had repeated calls over several days, where they claim they are contracted as Microsoft technical support. They can not validate their connection with Microsoft company and they claim my system is infected with malware and other viruses. No one can detect the infection other than Microsoft support team and want me to go to my computer etc…

Has any one received similar calls and are they real.
I trust Avast but if it is Microsoft how can I verify?
They always have a different phone number?
They always speak in an Indian accent

Its a scam, ignore them. Microsoft does not do this.

Hi,

I also had these calls for a bit, finally told them I knew they were a fraud and that I was contacting the RCMP if they persisted in calling me and I have not had any calls since. They are a scam for sure.

Cheers,
Janice

hi Kodiak_Bear,

It is a scam.

If you can answer this question, and believe it to be the case, and it is truthful, the question is, how do they know your system is infected?

This is a case of cold-calling all over, looking for a naive victim, and, sooner or later (sooner, they hope) someone will fall for this scam and let them in. The point of this is to get you to pay for a contract, and what they want to fix, are non-existent problems, and then that contract is usually at an exorbitant cost of over $100-200 dollars US, or more. btw this is usually charged to either your debit or credit card, which you willingly give them, and then it automatically renews itself at least once a year. Surprise!

You can try blowing a whistle in their ear next time they call. You won’t go to jail for doing that.

Tell them that you are running Linux not Windows and you know this is a scam and will be reported to the police.

Or tell them you will start your computer, put them on hold and have a cup of tea and some biccies. Do a little gardening, read the paper and then see if they are still there ;D

LOL +1 ;D (A good way to deal with such scammers…!!)

Or say, ‘just a moment whilst I switch on the tape recorder’ what did you say you were calling about and what is your name.
