Request for Help: windows mail on vista and no incoming mail

Dear All,
windows vista italian version and Avast Free Antivirus italian version 5.0594, mail throw windows mail, based on pop 3 protocol. No ssl or whatsoever protection/encryption is used, only pop server, user and password. server works correctly.
Mail currently works if I disable mail check module, but when I enable it “server closed connection in unexpected way” (english translation of italian error message :wink: ) no incoming mail but only error messages refering to server closing connection.
Please help, as antivirus is on a pc of non profit organization and virus free email is necessary for computer use.

If further information is needed kindly let me know and I will provide.

what error do you get when you try to check incoming mails?

do you have other security programs on your computer that could block it like an third party firewall?

could be that you have to chance avast so it has accecs to windows mail. it could be that stops it. lets hope someone helps here and gives instructions on how to configure avast to get acces to windows mail.

Only (other) security program is windows default firewall. I disabled it and tried to check mail: same error. I suppose this is not the problem, but thank you for the hint, anyway.

Error is “Server closed connection in unespected way” (translation for ITA :wink: ). Error code is 0x800CCC0F.
Protocol POP3, port 110 SSL protection off (as far as i know it is correct).
Only way ot receive email is actually to untick “Scan all incoming mails” in email protection.

That’s strange because Windows Mail retrieves my GMX mail account perfectly through pop3 on the Vista Machine here. Maybe it’s only certain mail providers that it has a problem with. I’ll have to try it with my other accounts, Gmail, Hotmail, and Inbox.com. I only set it up with GMX as a way of sending things between the two machines here without having to enable file sharing. The main user of the Vista machine uses Yahoo Mail (yukk) lol.
