I keep getting a “The requested resident task was not found.” error when I try to start a provider. I tried reinstalling and it didn’t help. Also I am getting 3 errors when I try to run a scan. I will post them at http://kgemods.com/avast/errs.htm I am thinking maybe a virus? Any help would be appreciated.

Your installation is corrupted. When you try to uninstall, you must reboot before trying a clean install.
At this point, go to www.avast.com and look up Programs…Avast Uninstall Utility.
Download and use it to remove all traces of Avast.
Reboot and then reinstall.
Have you had any other AV installed prior to Avast?

I did reboot, and no prior antivirus that I know of. I will try the avclear4, Though I would like to know how it happened as it was working just fine before. Oh well.
EDIT Nope didn’t help. Everything was gone, but I still have the problem.
Which is your operational system?
Do you mean that you tried to reinstall avast and it did not work?
Win XP and yes 3 times…
Did you use Control Panel to change the installation? Are the providers checked there?
Can you see if there is relevant events on Windows Events panel related to avast?
Can you open avast Log viewer and see what do you get?

I get this: http://kgemods.com/avast/avast.txt in the errors section. And thats all except the one about it being updated.
Start menu > Administrative Tools > Windows events (or whatever is its name in English…)
Anyway, your problem is:
ASWSIMPLE Usage of class Storage failed. Error details: CaswSimpleDlg::SaveParameters() - error: dbsCreateObject.
The solution could be:
Download RejZor’s application (‘Control’ on my signature), run it and change the storage method from ODBC to XML.
or
Click on ‘Settings’ in my signature, search for the work XML and see what you have to change in your avast4.ini file.

Thx worked like a charm, why all of the sudden I needed to change that I would like to know, but it works now so I guess it doesn’t really matter.
Everything is on your posted log (txt file). Storage method… problems with Microsoft Jet Drivers (ODBC) provided by MDAC (Microsoft Database Access Components)… well, a very know problem that even I could give you the answer. Some installations run better with XML storage method. Your system seems to be one of these 8)
