Rescue Disk missing aswShell.exe

Thanks Bob, too bad. :frowning:

Lots of time has passed but this is apparently still broken:

Is any one actually working in this to try to fix it ???

Avast has acknowledged it is a bug, but no time estimate given for a fix.

Shame since this is such a useful feature and has been broken for weeks.

I messaged @MartinZ about this and waiting for a suitable answer.

I had already reported this to Avast for review but thanks.

Hi everyone,

I have noticed this issue reported here and I am already in contact with dev responsible. I will keep you posted.

Thanks for great work,
B.

Thanks, what makes this so important is the fact that unless you actually boot from the Rescue Media, you assume that everything is OK.
If you should ever need that Media, that’s when you find out that what you’re depending on to get you out of trouble, has it’s own trouble and doesn’t help.

Until the problem is solved, this may help:

Hi there,

Just a quick update. The good news is, that we will release uUpdate containing the fix today or tomorrow, the latest.

Sorry for troubles,
B.

What is “uUpdate”?Is it new name of emergency update? :-\

micro-update

A few quick and easy questions:

1): How will we know when the problem has been fixed via the micro update ?

2): When this type of micro update comes out will it need a full reinstall like with a major
version change or just occur silently ?

3): Will it require a reboot to take effect ?

4): Will this result in a change of the program version number ?

1]
Try it or read the announcement from avast

2 & 3]
Micro updates (as has been explained) come with the VPS.
VPS updates do not requiere a (full) reinstall nor a reboot.

4]
No, since it is a micro update.
Only larger updates/fixes will change the version number.

Thank you for the clarifications.

Hi all,

just few answers to your interesting questions. Which were answered mostly by Eddy (thanks to you).

1] I will post here, or you can try it by yourself.
2] uUpdates and emUpdates are being distributed to our users silently. To fasten the delivery process you can run C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvEmUpdate.exe after the fix is announced as released
3] To make sure everything is ok reboot is recommended, sometimes required
4] Again, as Eddy said, no changes in program number

This fix is ready for internal testing, so it will be released tomorrow.

Keep it on,
B.

If I remember correctly, to run AvEmUpdate.exe, you’ll need to drill down to the file location and double-click it.

Correct?

Since this tool hasn’t worked for quite some time, I don’t see what the hurry is to
be the first to fix it by manually running the emergency updater ???
One or two extra days for the fix to install itself certainly is the best way to handle this.
Unless you attempted to actually boot from the Recovery Media, you didn’t even know that there was a problem.

Hi guys,

Microupdate was released, it should be delivered within next 24 hrs automatically or run the file mentioned in my previous post.

Cheers,
B.

Thanks, good to know.
