Apologies if this is already answered somewhere… I couldn’t find it.
I’ve been running avast4 on my desktop PC for probably a couple of years now. Recently, I resurrected an old laptop PC which had one of the “other guys” installed on it (which had long since expired). So of course I installed avast 4.6 there too.
Problem is that I can’t open the email where the registration key was originally sent to me (Yahoo error of some sort). So I’d like to be sent a duplicate copy of that email somehow, in order to get that same registration key so that I can register my second copy of Avast with it.
If this isn’t possible, can I use the same email address as before to re-register and get a new registration key for my laptop without affecting my existing installation on the desktop machine?
If you use the same e-mail address to re-register, you’ll get the same key, EXCEPT for the fact that it will be valid for the next 14 months (from now, not from the moment you did the 1st registration).
Well, for what it’s worth, I just did this, and got a different key than the one I’d had before (I compared it with the one that had already been in use on my desktop PC). The difference wasn’t only in the last part that isn’t displayed in the About box, but appeared to be a completely different key.
Not that it really mattered. I updated with the new key on both PCs without incident.
Well the 7-digit number between the first letter and the letter on the 9th position should be the same. This is called the “customer number”.
Otherwise, the key will vary, of course (that’s where the validity period and other details are stored).
Of course, this assumes that you used the same email address to register as for the first time.
