resetting the tcp stack in XP.

I noticed at a certain website, www.vevo.com, I was unable to view any of the video’s in both Firefox and
Internet Explorer. However, other sites, eg. youtube, forums, etc, etc. worked fine.

After trying a number of things, I followed the instructions at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
and reset the TCP stack.

(avast was installed at the time, although I had uninstalled and reinstalled avast! to see if it affected the problem -
id didn’t)

Does avast! do anything at the relevant keys?
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP\Parameters\

If so, what effect does “resetting the tcp stack” have on avast?
I wasn’t sure if it was a factor or not, so I did a repair install

After doing the Tcp reset, VEVO started working again, on both browsers.

Resetting those will have no affect on Avast

Thanks for the info. I wonder how my system came to be in this state where some web sites worked
but apparently, some did not. I see the results in the text file it creates, but I’m not familiar enough with
the contents to infer anything useful. Could some malware have changed it? Here’s the contents:

There was probably some adware on your system that messed with the winsock settings
