Win98SE, downloaded and installed 4.8 on 12/26, trial version, went on line and registered it today, received and applied key, tried to update AVS, got an Access Denied msg. Tells me it tried 9 times before giving up. Tried to update several more times and got the same message.
I checked the update Details and see the last update (had it set on automatic) was at 6:52:29 AM, this morning. It is now 10:50:23 AM. Is there a lock out period for AVS updates?
If not, what’s happening?
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
Did you install avast to the default location (C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4) ?
There is no lock out for manual iAVS updates, the auto update checks when you first connect to the internet and every four hours if you remain connected.
Getting an access denied error is a strange one, especially on win98.
Where did you download from and what version was it (right click the avast ‘a’ icon, about avast), 4.8.1296 is the latest version ?
Do you have any firewall?
Are you saying you can automatic update but not manually? ???
Thought I had solved the problem after I first reported it back in December. Re-entered the license key, re-booted and the updates went off without a hitch. Ran OK for a month, then bam, I get the Access Denied message today for Update Setup of vps-9012200.

More events with (doesn’t exist) tag
Then an ERROR with code 0x00000005
Err:Access is denied
Ideas?
