Residant Protection not working

I have avast home 4.6 edition and when I try to put the Residant Proection on, every time I put it on standard or high it just stays on disbaled. How do I get it to work ?

And will Residant Protection scan every single thing that comes into my PC ? like if I dl somthing , use a P2P program, browseing the web, ect. I didn’t see any other options.

I also don’t see any Menu option either… I have the simple interface

Any other antivirus in your system? And in the past? Which one?
Are you using XP? Are avast! services running?

On High sensitivity, yes.

I am running XP and I do not have any other virus scanners installed or running.
I had in the past(AVG and Nortan) but I unistalled and deleted them all.

The only avast service running is ashSimp2.exe and only when I manually run the program will it appear.

Be sure, specially NAV:

1. Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
2. Use Symantec removal tool (browse their site to get it, there are one for each antivirus series). Boot.
3. Install avast! Boot.
4. See what you get.

ashSimp2.exe is the non-skinned interface. Avast! services are here:
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

I suppose you have to have four avast! services:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner service)

The two first of them should be Automatic loaded and the two last Manually loaded.

Did you boot after installing avast?
Are you running WinPatrol? Or any other startup monitor?

Just right click the skin 8)
