I’ve used Avast for a couple of years now, and no problems. This morning I look at my icon, and its got the red bar thru it.
When I try and start Resident protection, nothing happens.
Have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled, rebooted, no difference. Says 6 providers, 0 running. When I try and restart it manually, it says Requested resident task was not found. This is the first time I’ve had any trouble. I havent installed anything lately to make it go haywire. Running W98. Any help please?
This is usually a sign of another AV installed, have you recently tried another AV or installed a security package that includes an AV ?
But as you have said not lately this is probably not the case.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?
Were/are you getting any error messages on start-up ?
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here
It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
Then uninstall, reboot, run the Uninstall utility, reboot, install using latest version, reboot.
