Resident Protection not working?

Resident Protection doesn’t seem to work like it did on my computer when I was running XP Pro x64. So I uninstalled Avast using the Avast uninstall program

Then I installed (today) from the web site.

Now, both Standard file system protection and MS Outlook plugin still work, but I don’t see that either of these work.

Instant Messenger protection
P2P program protection

I run Windows XP Professional

What am I doing wrong?

no blue ball icon like I used to have

Also, it doesn’t look like Avast is working unless I go to Start, Programs, click on Avast. THen it starts. It does open OK when I start Outlook.
