Resident Protection Settings

I am running the Home version of Avast and would like to be able to set the policy which determines what action occurs on discovering a virus.

The help file seems to say this done using the “Virus” tab under the “Standard Shield Provider Settings” - however the “Virus” tab (and the “Packers” tab) are not present on my dialogue box.

Is this a limitation of the Home variant?

Many thanks.

I’m afraid you are right - these pages cannot be reached in the Home version.
Actually, these pages are not shown in the usual resident protection control - but rather in the Enhanced User Interface, when editing the resident protection task.

Thanks for your repsonse.

What therefore is the ‘default’ policy for the Home version? I.e. What can I expect to happen if :

  1. A file containing a virus is accessed by a process
  2. I receive an email containing a virus

Thanks.

In both cases, a warning dialog pops up, asking you for an action (such as Delete, Move to Chest, …).
If you don’t choose any action (i.e. press OK):

  1. the access to the file will be denied (avast! won’t let you run an infected executable)
  2. the mail will be delivered to your mailbox, including the possible virus

Silent mode for both Standard Shield (file) and Internet Mail provider (email) and the answer ‘No’ will automatically send the file (or attached file) to Chest.
I think the answer ‘Yes’ will delete the file or the entire email message.
