I downloaded and installed Hostman beta (latest) on my Win7 64 bits system. Needless to say Hostman (32 bits) updated my hosts file but I wasn’t able to get on internet. Upon restarting my pc, Avast had an exclamation mark and I was unable to activate WebShield nor RP. So I went in Safe Mode, restored my hosts file back, uninstalled Hostman beta and repaired AVAST through the control panel. Everything is fine now but I worry about this behavior as Avast has an history of leaving me unexpectedly without protection without notice for no apparent reason. I don’t feel secure anymore on this! :o
Whats this got to do with avast, isn’t it because of the hostman beta version you tried? you would be better reporting the problem to the developers of hostman i feel.
Well, it’s Avast that went down and prevented even the complete start-up. I think 64 bits systems with Win7 have special problems of their own with FW and AV.
Beta bug this severe, I feel it would definitely be best to report this to Hostman.
Avast cannot be expected to fix a beta bug in a program it does not own or control. Avast cannot anticipate feature changes made beforehand in beta, but it does have the responsibility to ensure Avast! works with an OEM version of a program after the fact. Beta is just that, beta.
Stable (OEM) version works ok?
Ok, thanks, may be I’ll stop downloading betas. But this stable version of Avast (1456) has also some question marks about its autosandbox feature. In fact, there is no way to ensure if its working. The actual tool dated ages says no. I mean, it’s frustrating, added the Avast Web Shield interference with FW that’s not funny at all!
