I have to exit from resident protection if I want
to see windows Help (Start/Help )…
Otherwise the system locks and I have to reboot…
Thanks.
Hi,
what Win do you have ?
all security-updates from Microsoft applied ?
have you changed anything from the default configuration of the Resident shield ?
what programs start up with WIN ?
Strange indeed?
Anyway I think it is not concerned to avast!
We can help you if you give us more information… 8)
Running XP pro here fully patched, and the latest Avast home edition. Just for the heck of it I tried out help and support and it worked fine on my system. Maybe a firewall configuration problem is to blame? I know I have to give help and support access to the net through my firewall for it to function.

Douglas, you could be right… I forgot the firewall!
Yes, the help service (Microsoft Help Center Hosting Server) and error debug service (Microsoft Application Error Reporting) could have access denied by the firewall (even to your own local disk…). Strange, but for me, who does not need to receive help from Microsoft by the web, I just allow the Help Center to be used locally (not through the Internet).
What firewall do you use?
Don’t ask me why…
My Standard shield is customized…for a few days I’ve
not beeen able to access Win Help (my WinMe had been
locked at least 20 times…) . Only setting it to “normal”
has allowed the access to Win help…
THEN I 've “customized” as before and everything WORK !!!
