Residential protection

Fore the first 4 week Avast worked really well but now when I boot up it takes 2 minutes for the Resident protection to activate.
I get a small red circle in the bottom right hand corner of the Avast icon in the tool bar which stays there for two minutes during which time my computer freezes. ??? ???
I am running on windows XP sp2 and IE7

I have tried repairing and reinstalling Avast
I thought it could of been a firewall problem so I uninstalled Norton firewall

Theses did not help so I thought I would ask for some external help

How long have you been using IE7.

About 6 weeks with no problems

Before testing further, please, follow:

  1. Remove Symantec products through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
  2. Use Symantec removal tool following the three steps defined in the SymNRT tool info or here.
  3. Boot.
  4. Install avast! Boot.
  5. See what you get.

I tried all of that
And
Reg cleaner
Reg magic
Fitted an extra Gb of ram

still takes 2 minutes to complete

Will this thread help?

There are a lot of suggestions…

Yes I have read that thread and it seams to me that it is far wider problem than I thought ??? ???

I think that the only real way around it is for avast to put out some sort of patch ::)before a lot of us migrate to AVG.

I will give it one month before I migrate

I don’t think the problem is on avast.
Sorry, but it’s well known that Symantec products left trash behind and mess all the computer.
You’ll lose avast if you migrate… Hope you luck.

Will this bring you any light?

That little red dot still stays there for 2 minutes after desktop has loaded
