[Resolved] Ant-spyware?

I have avast free and MBAM. Do I really need anti-spyware? If so, which one? I ask because cnet.com puts MBAM into the anti-spyware category.

Is your MBam the fully functional version with real-time protection or just the On demand Scanner?

Avast and MBAM both have antispyware.

I have the free version of MBAM.

You could consider to buy MBAM Pro. It’s a one time fee for a life time licence. What I like about them is that they have good relations with respectable malware removal experts/forums

Greetz, Red.

Good advice

@ Para-Noid,

What is your firewall (FW)? If you are using a strong 2-way FW with HIPS you should be fine with free MBAM. I use free (see my Signature). It all depends on your set up and how paranoid you feel…no pun intended.

If I wanted to spy on ants I would probably use a magnifying glass. ??? ;D

An other free firewall that uses 2-way FW with HIPS is comodo firewall.

And i think COMODO is more stable than Online Armor,BIG NOTE:You should be a computer expert to wrok with both so if you dont you just mess with your pc and lead it to a format.

I also wouldn’t run more than one real-time security program. Free MBAM is enough, if you use it.

I don’t know what HIPS means. I thought my avast “name” would bring a chuckle to someone. Pun accepted…I like humor.

HIPS stands for Host-based Intrusion-Prevention System. Practically it means that the firewall that has HIPS technology must learn which program you use; sometimes it will ask you if you want to allow a certain application that it doesn’t know of.

Both OA and comodo have HIPS (glad you like my humor ;D). Yes, HIPS does maximize your protection, so going with MBAM free would be fine.

I’ve done beta testing for FW’s to see how compatible they are with Avast. I don’t know if Superhacker has tested as well, but the new version of OA 4.5.1.431 is very stable in all OS’s. Comodo recently had a new release (5.x), so I cannot comment on the new version, however their previous version (4.x) did have problems for some who decided to go back to v.3.x.

I think that things which are talked about here will be more available in v5.1 and or v6 of Avast

SafeSurf, CIS 5 is stable even if it quite fresh on the security market. Many of the bugs were fixed during the beta testing.

I downloaded, installed when it came out but I have never had any problem and I must say that I am amazed that CIS has crashed or anything alike.

Tenko

I test both of them and i found CIS stable more than OA

Like I’ve said in other threads, everyone’s system reacts differently to software, so it is better to test it out prior to purchasing.
