(RESOLVED) Avast free pre release setup file problem

This is weird as i only downloaded it yesterday onto a friends system and it was all good but today iv tried several time’s to install it onto my father’s system and a different issue each time,
The first time i downloaded 6.0.1035 free it installed fine but then the pro version pops up when i open it but the installer and the naming in the programs list say it is the free ??? so i thought i’ll download another fresh copy and do a clean install but once installed it tells me that it wont start and that there a side by side configuration error and repair’s dont work as it just freezes the system so shutting the system down and trying to reinstall over the top made no difference, so then i come here and get myself another fresh copy and try again for a clean install but once installed it again would not start and wouldn’t let me restart either so had to hard shut it down and then rebooted and now it started up fine (finally) i thought as everything seened to be working right and shields are showing activity but as im going though and changing some of the setting’s i now discover that when i click on scan computer there is nothing there (it’s blank ???) so iv had a gut’s full by this stage so it can stay as it is since it seems to be working but just missing the scans page, iv also tried several repair’s and installing over the top again but it still the same ::slight_smile:
It’s a win 7 64 bit i5 650 hp with only the windows firewall and MBAM PRO, the system is a fresh install only a couple of day’s ago and the mse that was installed on it then has been completly removed with the removal tool.

Craigb, side by side configuration error could be related to installation errors.
I suggest an installation from scratch. I suppose you know how to do it…

Install this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2051a0c1-c9b5-4b0a-a8f5-770a549fd78c

Yeah i did 3 or 4 clean installs to get to the stage where it is now which is nothing in the scan computer tab, im hoping the the next refresh will fix it though.

Its got all the c++ redistibutable’s 2005, 2008, 2010, whats the IA64EXE ?

Itanium. You are not interested.

Ok iv got all the others then 32 and 64 bit.

Definatly dont need that as it’s an intel i5 650.

If you have this installed: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update
I’m out of ideas.

If it doesn’t work/help, uninstall and reinstall all relevant versions of the VC++ junk in safe mode. (Yeah, I’m serious, tested several times on seriously bugged up computers.)

If you should do so, for avast you only need the one I posted.

Yeah, but the side-by-side errors can come from any version(s) installed. This thing comes bundled in tons of minor/subminor versions with various apps, most third-party developers apparently do not care to keep up with MS patching when bundling it. >:( Lately I have found to have 4 versions of the VC++ 2008 alone on the computer. :-X

Alright iv uninstalled all versions of c++ and reinstalled just the 2005 and 2008 versions dont know anything that’s using the 2010 versions anyway, just in the process of downloading another fresh copy of avast and then do a clean install so i’ll let you know what happen’s, finger’s crossed :-X

True, therefore he should follow your advice and wipe out all of the useless stuff and then only install the above one.
Not, if you need other distributions for other programs, Craig…!!! But I can’t tell from here.

Yeh it works ;D , still had a problem when it is finishing install as it just sits there and say’s finishing and you cant cancel or anything else so had to hard shut it down which i find i have to do on all 64 bit systems but when rebooted it’s all up and running with no bits missing, thanks for all your help guy’s (Asyn, doktornotor) as it’s much appreciated

NP, Craig…!
