[Resolved] Avast! recently blocked HTML:Script-inf from...

hxxp://destructoid.com

The message Avast! blocking (or connection aborted) this HTML:Script-inf came when I was entering the site looking for a review of a game. Specifically Avast! detected hxxp://destructoid.com/avatars/medium/missing.png|>{gzip} from that site. Should this be a cause of concern? Is my computer infected? Should I do a boot-time scan?

Until we know more information, please change your links in your first post to non-linkable…http to hXXP. Thank you.

So Avast had a pop-up when you were online that prevented you from going into the site and you did not go into the site?

Thank you for changing the link.

So my question is…did you go into the site if Avast gave you the pop-up warning?

The warning pop-up came in as Firefox was loading the site (I already saw a paragraph from a game’s review).

I’m already running Malewarebytes and no malware was detected from my computer. Plan to also do a boot-time scan later and afterwards, SUPERAntispyware scan. No suspicious process in task manager. I don’t think there’s nothing to worry about since the connection to that second url I posted was blocked but just to be sure…

All sounds like a good idea. Make sure you update MBAM prior to scanning and post your log here if any infection is found. Thanks.

Yup I already updated before scanning and nothing was found. Going to do boot-time scan and catch some sleep and reporting tomorrow.

Have a good sleep.

The message Avast! blocking (or connection aborted)
meaning it was blocking the bad website before you entered it, this is detected on the website and not in your computer Boot time scan is something you do when/if the normal scan detect an infection but is not able to remove it for whatever reason....

Hmm…

I see, so that’s how connection blocking works. Well it doesn’t hurt to do that anyway right?

Anyway, thanks for all your help everyone.

That’s right. It all depends on how “paranoid” you feel. But Avast did it’s job nicely and kept you safe. You did the right thing coming here and asking questions to be sure.
