Hi,
Update: After 3 weeks of testing, I can safely say that Flash will NOT load 75% of the time everytime I start Firefox in Sandbox mode. (Never an issue with Sandboxie btw).
I’m using Avast Suite (Internet Security) 5.0.594
Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
Shockwave Flash v 10.1.53.64
Firefox v 3.6.6
First, after using avast free for 4-5 years, I’ve decided to buy a 2 year license (Suite) to show my support :). LOVE the new interface, the transparency of the application, ease of use. Congrats… you guys are really on the right track here.
However, I’ve encountered some issues which I thought you guys should know about.
(A)
In the Email and website page that showed up after the purchase, it mentioned that if I already had avast 5, I just needed to add the license file to upgrade. Every time I did this, it would tell me it was upgrading/updating the software, BUT looking at the license info, it was still for the free version (no firewall, still same expiry date as the free version etc etc). I tried this 3 times, with boots each time. It just never worked.
So, I uninstalled it, and reinstalled the one mentioned in the link provided. I now have the correct version (suite) with the firewall/sandbox ![]()

However, the first time my computer booted after the new installation, Windows 7 mentioned that I didn’t have a genuine version of Windows before showing me the desktop. I canceled this windows message to continue, updated Avast 5 (it did it by itself) to the latest version and when I rebooted, I did NOT get the genuine message again… so it seems to have been a glitch but I thought worth mentioning. (To recap, after installing the purchased version of Avast 5 suite, on the first reboot, I get a message that Win7 isn’t genuine which it is). – Note that I reconfirmed on the Microsoft website that my version is indeed genuine so the problem is gone. It just got me worried for a bit ;). And I don’t know why it did that in the first place. Note that I never got this genuine message before this.

Now the issue if have (see update at the beginning of this post) is that I can’t make Firefox work with the latest flash player if I use the sandbox. I’ve tried it 20 times with different settings without avail. How am I supposed to make it work?
Message I get when Flash isn’t working… "You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video. " and there’s a bar on top of Firefox indicating that “Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page.”
Here’s what I did to test… Test site YouTube (and others).
-
Sanbox internet access - Allow all virtualized applications to access the internet
Parameters - Web Browsers - Bookmarks, History and Cookies checked
Firefox Sandboxed – Flash NOT working
Firefox outside sandbox – Flash Working -
changed Parameters to All Settings…
Same results… Flash will not work within the sandbox, but will work outside the sandbox. -
Variations of the above with same results.
I’d really like to know how to make it work… I even tried to add the process NPSWF32.dll to the list of allowed process to access the internet without it making any differences.
Any help on this is really appreciated ![]()

Rej
P.S. Flash now works sometimes. The first time flash worked 2 or 3 times in a row in Firefox while in Sandbox I thought the problem had fixed itself but after 3 weeks now, I’m realizing it’s not working well at all (about 75% failure rate). I’ve uninstalled & reinstalled both Flash & Firefox using their tools without changes. Hope you guys fix this as I prefer the way your Sandbox works than Sandboxie – I even removed sanboxie a few weeks ago to force myself to use only yours, but now I"m reconsidering… specially since it seems almost nobody have the issue – is it my setup that creates the bug? Also, is this a known bug by Avast developers?
