Asyn,

Would it be a worthwhile exercise to purchase Mbam Pro as all i now have is AIS Paid and Mbam Free?

Thank you.

PS: The online armor which is installed on my desktop PC not my notebook will expire in 62 days.

I have another licence for AIS ā€œbecause my brother got the 3 pack he only needed oneā€, perhaps i should replace Online armor with AIS on my desktop pc.

No, imoā€¦
The free version runs well.

Okay thank you Asyn.

hi Dreamy

Just a note here - i donā€™t think it is necessary that Windows firewall is turned off.

from what I gather many on the forum consider that it is better to leave Windows firewall turned on
I have always left it turned on - that is, when trialing Internet Security suite, and also when I had OA premium running
there were no conflicts, no problems, and all was smooth running

I will say that this was a while ago now, so possibly no longer the case - I just havenā€™t heard anything different myself

And then again, if you like to turn it off, and no problems, well then ignore all the above

I have been using Spyot and Avast together with free MBAM for about 5 years never had problems with Spybot and Avast togetherā€¦As a mater of fact they are Awesome togetherā€¦Spybot S&D is not an AntiVirus so it definately goes well with Avastā€¦I also Used Spybot Avast Spywareblaster and Windows Defender all together and they all ran AWESOMEā€¦I just didnā€™t care for Microsoft updates from Windows Defender everydayā€¦ Although Online Armour has a Firewall and Virus protectionā€¦And if you are using Avast the firewall versionā€¦that could create a problemā€¦But Spybot is definately Good With Avastā€¦I just wish they would create a better version of Spybotā€¦They havenā€™t done nothing to it for yearsā€¦It still runs like it did when it startedā€¦Avast can do a scan quicker than Spybot loads itselfā€¦Luck

Hello mkis,

Well i am no expert what so ever in this area at all. I am a little confused now because the guyā€™s in the IT department at work have always slammed into me 1 firewall only. Be it Windows firewall or Avast or Online Armor etc or whatever. I must only have one firewall active is what has been preached to me so i follow that rule. Iike i have AIS installed on my notebook PC and i have Online armor installed on my desktop PC.

The Online armor on my Desktop PC will expire in 2 months, and i have an additional 2 year AIS licence 3 weeks old so when Online Armour expires i will most likely install AIS on my desktop PC.

I would like to turn on windows firewall but several IT guyā€™s have told me no, it can cause problems and possibly leave me more vulnerable in the odd case.

But thank you very much for your thoughts, i appreciate it.

Hello Daris,

The guyā€™s in the know here have told me to uninstall spybot because it may be causing my problem.

I have downloaded the latest SpywareBlaster But ā€œNOT INSTALLED ITā€ i will wait to see what the tech guyā€™s here have to say about installing it.

I am so confused, ??? all i want is for both my Note Book & Desktop PCā€™s to be as secure as possible. And i am prepared to pay for it for peace of mind.

Again thank you very much for your thoughts, i do appreciate it.

Oh youā€™re doing fine. Your PC.

I think you determine what works and suits you best, and that is the standard for yr systems.
Also great to see that you have help and support group at work.

Regards, Mark.

Hi Dreamy,

The Windows Firewall is compatible with Avastā€™s Firewall. However, you can leave it off since itā€™s not really that impressive.

Spywareblaster prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware and other potentially unwanted programs, blocks tracking cookies, and restricts the actions of potentially unwanted or dangerous web sites. You donā€™t need it if you sandbox your browser. AIS and Malwarebytes will keep your system secured.

Sure, do thatā€¦!

Youā€™re welcomeā€¦!

 1. You are talking about avast 4.x together with Spybotā€¦! But things changeā€¦! Spybot brings troubles, nowadays. Also it isnā€™t worth running at all (outdated software), better use Mbamā€¦!
 2. No, it isnā€™t anymore with avast 5.x versionā€¦!

 1. Donā€™t install itā€¦! No need.
 2. Well, the best thing is, you donā€™t have to pay for good securityā€¦! I guess, you like this statement.

One other comment about MBAM, if itā€™s not too far off-topic ā€¦ last I heard (late winter or early spring), they were planning to convert to incremental def updates similar to the way avast works, sometime this summer. Thatā€™ll clean up its one real flaw, since it currently updates by downloading the full database, currently somewhere around 4 or 5 megs. And itā€™ll put MBAM way ahead of its competitors like SAS.

Dreamy,

Iā€™m sorry for the late reply, but it sounds like you now have a plan that will work for you. As you can see, we are here to help you and everything will work out fine for both your PCā€™s. Please let us know if there is anything more we can do for you.

SpywareBlaster is passive protection for IE, Firefox and other browsers

Secure Your Browser

SpywareBlaster provides protection for your favorite web browser(s)

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html#Browsers

Why SpywareBlaster?

Spyware, adware, browser hijackers, and dialers are some of the most annoying and pervasive threats on the Internet today. By simply browsing a web page, you could find your computer to be the brand-new host of one of these unwanted fiends!

The most important step you can take is to secure your system.
And SpywareBlaster is the most powerful protection program available.

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html#Overview

Since Dreamy has AIS, browsing in the avast sandbox will make it so that thereā€™s no need for Spywareblaster. And besides, the web shield will offer sufficient prevention of web-based threats.

That is okay SafeSurf,

And i will take you up on the bit i have bolded above if i need to. ā€œThank You it is very much appreciatedā€

Asyn, YoKenny, GloobyGoob, MikeBCda,

Thank you for all the help guyā€™s, i really do appreciate it

Anyway i enabled SpywareBlasterā€™s protection. ā€œI am cautious i guessā€ But Spybot stays off. Things are running much better without it and Mbam is much easier to work plus i like it.

Thank you for all your time.

You are quite welcome.
