[Resolved] Interesting...really!

AV-Comparatives.org has released its latest results May 2011. The testing was done about the same time v6.0.xxx was being rolled out and was not included (see bottom of page 3). I want to know how often they test? Is it quarterly? I would like to see how avast! 6.0.xxx has improved over the competition. Just by personal usage I feel v6.0 is stronger than any other av.

I think this was discussed before wasn’t this meant to be a proactive test ?

This just uses an old version of the database to see if it stops what are supposedly new malware samples. Essentially doesn’t test avast pro-activity, since much of what ends up on your system comes from the internet, the network and web shields can block that content even if it is an unknown malware sample.

The network shield can block malicious sites and the web shield is very hot on hacked sites and exploits, both of which don’t actually need to know what the malware at the other end might be.

Now if you just run an on-demand scans against these samples avast may not detect a specific sample, which the web or network shield could have blocked.

My bad, I forgot to give the link http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_retro_may2011.pdf

It is a retrospective test.

Yes that’s the one retro test, Vlk feels is not like a real life scenario and discredited, this is I believe why avast withdrew from the tests along with a number of other AVs.

You aren’t meant to give a direct link to the pdf file only the site and people check and download themselves.
