Some users does not understand “Allow users to email me” settings and enable this option when register.
Now, this setting is not accessible from newbie users. Email address is being opened and no way to prevent this… this is not a good thing. :-
Please, allow newbie users to change his/her basic forum settings.
The restrictions for changing settings for newbies are fine. The problem is that the email setting should be configured to be “NO” by default. This has been requested several times already. Let’s hope the admin modifies the default setting now.
Though I agree there should be some restrictions for newbie users, “Account Settings” should be accessible, or they can’t change their password, their mail-address, their language settings…
Actually, they can (or at least, they should). The personal settings are divided into categories (pages). There are a couple of settings’ pages they can get into (although, maybe with the recent changes in the forum, something went wrong; the admin should double check again the Newbies permissions in that case).
So, they should be able to see their email addresses, but they shouldn’t be able to post a signature for example.
Whichever the case, I still think the default setting for emails should be “NO”. I guess VLK and Chocholo should decide about potential problems and/or inconveniences for “YES” and for “NO” as defaults for this option.
