avast did not automatically update today for me.
I have the latest version and run xp home sp3. It attempted to, but no update. I do have a line in the .ini file to wait a couple of minutes to update after I turn on the computer.
My computer is permanently connected to the INTERNET by broadband and updates every 240 minutes. I do turn off the computer sometimes during the day.
A manual update went ok. This is the first time I have noticed this.
Unusual or?
Thank you.
Do you mean you’ve missed the automatic update and the virus definitions remain as yesterday?
Please, upload (attach) the avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.log
(or the shorter C:\Users\All Users\Alwil Software\Avast5\log\Setup.log).
If the file is too big for the forum, post the last 400-500 lines of it.
avast attempted to update and the file remains as yesterday.
Mine updated about 20 min’s ago 100923.0
here is the file
The update today was just a little later than usual (released 14:30:41 UK local time), but there is no fixed schedule, though there tends to be two per day.
It just attempted to update, but it failed, now showing ‘out of date update’ in red.
@ jwall
Please update go to PROFILE then Modify Profile then Forum Profile Information then then Signature: and put information about your system just like mine and DavidR’s signature about your system just like my signature so that the helpers can offer pertinent advice.
Ok, done, thank you.
I did a repair, shut down the system and restarted and things look better now. The virus definition version was showing different on different menus. In summary it showed one version and in update, it showed a different version number, but now it’s all the same.
I’m waiting for my next scheduled update attempt to see what happens.
I also changed the .ini file so avast will NOT wait to update when I turn the computer on.
As I stated earlier, I’m on broadband, but I do not leave the computer on 24/7.
Yes, today’s update was a little bit later then usual. Now VPS 100923-1 was just released.

Thanks Milos.
Everything seems to be working now. The last auto update was flawless with the latest virus definition.
Thanks for the great support.
Next time this happens, instead of doing a repair, simply reboot your machine and this usually fixes the problem. If not, then try a hard (cold) boot.
