HI I have a question about something I have a Windows 7 computer in the house recently when you start up the computer I have noticed that their is no avast icon in the lower right of the toolbar where the clock is and other startup icons are located. So I went and tried a repair on Avast and then I re booted the computer and when the desktop comes up their was no avast icon in the lower toolbar. So I went into the avast settings and under apperance it says show avast icon on toolbar it is checked so then i pushed ok.
The funny thing is though when I double click on the avast icon on the desktop the avast Orange ball shows up in the corner on the lower toolbar where it should be. What I would like to now is their anything else I can try to get the avast icon to show up in the lower toolbar.
I would also like to now if the avast icon does not show up in the lower toolbar will avast still protect Windows 7 from viruses, and other threats on the internet?
I should also mention that I have avast 7 on a windows Vista computer and the avast icon shows up on the lower toolbar all the time no problems.
i should also mention that the last avast update that I installed on Windows 7 worked fine and the avast orange icon showed up on the lower toolbar all the time as well.
Thanks any help would be appreciated
Sorry for the mistakes
other info that might be helpful
Windows 7
Avast free 7.01456
HI everyone I am not sure what I did to correct this issue but today i restart Windows 7 and the orange avast free is in the lower toolbar now on Windows 7
I would just like to say thanks to everyone for helping me out with solutions for this problem
What other security based applications do you have installed, anti-spyware, firewall, etc. ?
Spybot S&D with its tea-timer module was one such application that blocked startup items, which the avastUI.exe is (controls the tray icon and user interface).
HI DavidR Well Windows 7 has avast 7 free, Windows Defender but it not set to come on at startup. This computer has avast free is the only software that comes up on startup when it gets to the desktop.
HI Tech I have not tried to make a link to the avastui.exe and put it in my startup folder could you please explain to me how you do this I have never attempted to do anything like this before Tech.
Right click the avastUI.exe file in the avast installation folder and try to create a link to.
Windows will say it can’t be created here but in other place (desktop). Choose yes.
Move the created lnk to the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu folder (all users) or C:\Users.…\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu (where … is your username).
You could also try the troubleshooting settings of Avast and check off loading of Avast after other services. I had icon problems with Comodo in XP at one time and delaying the startup of the Comodo UI fixed it. I had to use a utility called StartupDelayer because Comodo did not have the settings option. What sometimes happens, (and it was a known issue in XP that they never fixed) is that if too many things load simultaneously, sometimes the system tray icons for one or more of them will not appear. I Haven’t heard of it happening in Win 7 before but I guess it could.
I still have issues in XP where sometimes my volume control and power icons will show in the tray and sometimes not.
I would also check the tray settings and make sure Avast is set to always show as well.
What happens if you disable windows defender, personally I don’t feel that you need that running along with avast. I don’t use it on my win7 netbook, so \i don’t know if it has a means of blocking startup entries.
You could also check the msconfig startup entries and see if it already exists there; use the windows key + R to open the Run command window and type msconfig and click OK. Check the startup tab and see if there is an entry for avastUI.exe, there should and it should be checked, see image (XP but essentially the same for win7).
Thanks DavidR for the help I will try that If it is just checked in the Msconfig then do I just check it in the startup tab and push ok will that save it.
HI DavidR I did check in the msconfig in the startup tab and yes Avastui.exe there was a check mark in the box all ready . I also looked in Task Manager and I clicked on the services tab and avast was Running under Services.
HI I was just wondering can I go back to a previous version of avast free and do you think that might work to bring the avast orange ball back to the taskbar.
The Avast service and the tray icon are two different things. The icon loads when the GUI loads with the silent option. The Avast service itself will be running and you will be fully protected even if the icon does not show up.
