I keep getting an error updating to the latest definitions saying the package is broken.
I have reinstalled yesterday when it first happened and shrugged it off as a minor problem, but it happened again today when the new definitions came out. I changed the connection settings but still no luck with the update.
This isn’t a problem with the server or my connection either, since my other two computers can update just fine.
This computer with the problem runs Vista 32-bit, but the other two use XP 32-bit.
Help is appreciated!
EDIT: COMODO Firewall is installed on only this computer but does not appear to be blocking Avast in it’s event history.
What avast version are you using 4.8 or 5.0 ?
Latest is avast 5.0.677.
What connection settings did you change ?
Yes, I’m using version 5.0.677. I only changed the update settings, haven’t tried anything else.
Yes but which of the update settings ?
Just to be sure - Does Comodo allow avast.setup internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.
Try changing the Update, Update Parameters settings to ‘My computer is permanently connected to the internet’ if you are on broadband.
Try changing the Update, Proxy Settings to Direct connection (no proxy) unless you use a proxy ?
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
The repair seemed to have fixed the “Package is broken” error, although now Avast reports that the definitions are up to date (101001-1) when attempting to manual update (via the UI and manual download on the website), while the current version still reads 100930-1. I’m assuming it’s just a bug.
The out of sync issue should be corrected if you reboot after using the repair.
Well then consider this problem solved!
