I think I’ve had these for a while, so they’re obviously not related to the upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1, and possibly were also there back in 4.8.
Under my Avast5 folder in Program Files, there are (besides the ones I’m familiar with) two sub-folders with the above names which appear to have exactly the same contents except for their respective .chm (help) files. With those two exceptions, all other files in both folders refer to the current 5.1 version.
Do I need to keep both of these folders, or can I scrap one safely? They’re not big, maybe 350K each, so keeping them’s not worth worrying about, just curious. Thanks.
I think you shouldn’t really mess with the files and folders inside of avast! installation folder
The subfolders contain language resources; 1033 is English, and 1909 is Pirate talk you also have installed. If you want to remove the pirate talk, you’d better uninstall it in the usual way (Languages page or Control Panel applet) - removing them manually might confuse the installer.

I did (today) take out Pirate Talk, via Add-Remove-Change, but last I looked its folder was still there. Presumably my next reboot, restarting avast, will finish the cleanup.
Yes, that’s exactly what I found. At that point I assume it’s OK to simply delete the empty folder (need to temporarily disable self-protection to do that) with no ill effects, which I did.
