I use Firefox and when I went to get the latest update, a d/l manager started d/l. Is this the only way to get the latest update or is there another way. Thanks for any replys.
no it’s not the only way, avoid this method as their download manager is not very good. The easiest way is to click on the link for “other operating system”, choose your OS, and then you’ll get a downlod link that will give you the flashplayer files directly (there are two, one for IE (ax), and one for other browsers). You need both, as you use Firefox, and it’s better to update IE plugin too just in case ;D

I always use the download manager and have never had a problem with it. There also is no reason to uninstall the older version first except for beta versions and they warn you about those.
DCH, stop the BS thanks that download manager has been an issue for many, that’s known, and it’s always better to uninstall the old version, then reboot, and then install the new one. That’s the only way to get a clean install of flash player as old version files don’t get deleted unless you reboot.
Oh yeah, they may have optimized the DM for IE but as you know I hate IE, and guess what, the OP runs Firefox where that DM runs like crap.

Logos after reading the rest of the posts I did not uninstall the old version. So I did uninstall the version I had installed with the uninstall flash tool and rebooted. Then I went to the link you posted to get it reinstalled and when I clicked on other browser and went to next page and unchecked that other addon when it started it was d/l that d/l manager again. Help.

I have to agree with Dch48 as I also use the d/l manager and never had any problems with it even though I am still on dial-up. In fact, I used it earlier tonight and it was quick and easy.
You can stop the BS–I have never posted anything like that. When I see BS I comment on it.
Old version files don’t need to be deleted, they get replaced. The only versions that should be uninstalled first are beta versions.
BS again, you’re wrong again, old files are not deleted before the first reboot, whether you’re overwriting the install with the new version or uninstall first (and they’re never replaced). I’ve seen Secunia detect that once…the old version was still detected, and I saw the files :
And if you ever uninstalled and took a look at the log you would see it too. But that’s already too much to ask is it :
I don’t use Secunia, there’s no need for that either. Sometimes, especially in the case of device drivers, you can be better off not updating. There are enough other ways of knowing if there is an update to something. Most programs will check and tell you or have a way of checking manually. That’s good enough. I also never even think of looking at logs unless there’s a problem. If the new files have the same name as the old ones, they get overwritten in the same way that Windows updates replaces system files (except that Windows backs up the old versions in case you need to go back to them). Anything that updates by replacing old versions with the same file name will overwrite, and thus remove, the old files. Even if this doesn’t happen, the old files are deactivated and not used anyway. Adobe tells you when you should uninstall a previous version and that’s the only time you need to do it, not every time there’s an update.

might be worth trying differently to avoid these errors and not install blindly : and on a side note, the old files don’t get neither backed up nor overwritten, the new ones are renamed …while the old ones keep being used, leading to conflicts or no use of the new version.

The online service happens to be excellent for keeping your important programs up-to date. Logos is also correct in his statement "That's the only way to get a clean install of flash player as old version files don't get deleted unless you reboot." I just ran into that yesterday when updating one of my systems with Secunia. I removed the old version manually since I didn't intend to reboot the system.

4 click on 10.1 for IE >>> chose Flash Player 10.1 for Windows Internet Explorer click on “agree and continue” (not on continue) >>> download!!!
5 go back to the last page
6 select OS again and click continue
7 click on “Flash Player 10.1 for Windows - Other Browsers” >>> click on “agree and continue” (not on continue) >>>download!!!
install both and you’re done.
