[RESOLVED] Re: Avast Error

Hi Guys, this annoying error only recently started,i am running win7 64 bit and have avast 5 free,on starting my pc today i got this error application failed to initalize (0xc0150004)as far as i can tell all this has done is stop the icon from showing in the taskbar,i have uninstalled and reinstalled but it stilll does the same thing.
Cant seem to stop it from doing it,any ideas?.

sorry forgot to add it is AVASTUI.exe that dont start.

Hello dabber and welcome to the forum.

  1. Did you reboot after installing?
  2. What version of Avast did you install? 5.0.677 is the latest version.
  3. What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including antivirus (AV), firewall (FW), and other security programs? If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor’s uninstaller’s tool or another way)?

Hi,and thanks,

Yes i restarted, avast had beeen working great untill this little mishap.
Yes i have version 5.0.677,although i cant see the avast icon to check as it doesnt open the action centre i get the same error.
The only other security i have is Zonealarm firewall.

To clarify, Avast is working fine, but the Action Center does not recognize Avast as an AV? And you do not have the Avast toolbar on the bottom of your screen?

As far as i know Avast is working, its upto date and scanning is on,so windows tells me,it does recognise avast, what i cant do is open avast to get the program up,also i dont have the Avast icon in the taskbar anymore as it used to be,and every reboot of my pc brings up this error that AVASTUI.exe failed to initalize and the same error code.

Try to Repair your installation:

  • Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
  • Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
  • Reboot.

Im a bit ahead i already tried that and although it runs through the repair it still doesnt fix the error :frowning:

I know I asked you this already, but did you have any other antivirus (AV), firewall, trial versions of these, or other security software on your machine before this version of Avast?

There was nothing on the pc only what comes with windows it was a clean install of win7.

So that would be windows firewall and windows defender, witch is currently turned off.

Then I suggest the following…

Uninstall Avast and do a CLEAN install:

  1. Save a copy of newest version of Avast (5.0.677) for the version you need and save it to your HDD:
    Freehttp://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free_eng.exe - (English only)
    Freehttp://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe - (multi-language version)
  2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD.
  3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
  4. Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
  5. If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool.
  6. Reboot.
  7. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
  8. Get Internet access and register your copy or add the license key for Free:
    Free – http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php
  9. Update the Avast definitions.

Let me know if this fixes your problems. Thank you.

Ok,well i uninstalled rebooted it all went ok,then i download the file again installed all went fine, rebooted but still get the same error AVASTUI.exe application failed to initalize same error code went it rebooted :frowning:

I then suggest that you uninstall ZA FW per the vendor’s instructions, and turn on Windows FW. Reboot. See if this resolves your problem. You may need to do another Repair of Avast. Reboot. If this does not work, you may need to do another uninstall/reinstall of Avast if ZA caused any corruption of Avast files. There have been issues discussed here on the forum with ZA and Avast.

I agree with SafeSurf as there have been problems with ZoneAlarm in the past.
