Resolved - Recommended defragger?

Hi I have the Windows Disk Defragmenter running on schedule by default. Do I need an extra third-party defragger? If so, can anyone tell me a good defragger to use that won’t cause problems with avast? Thanks.

I use defraggler.

I use Puran_Defrag (free version), which also offers a boot-time defrag and I find it quick. http://www.puransoftware.com/Puran-Defrag.html.

There have been other thread discussions on defrags, so you may want to also do a search on this in the forum as everyone has their own preference.

I would recommend the free Auslogics defragmenter but I would not recommend any of them to do background or scheduled defrags. This only increases the wear and tear on your hard drive and is not necessary. You really only need to defrag weekly at the most or whenever an analysis indicates more than 5% fragmentation. Today’s high speed HD’s don’t benefit from defragging nearly as much as the old slower ones did.

Hi

I use UltimateDefrag

Thanks for the input everybody, I’m settled with one now. Thanks for the heads up Dch48

Again ???
Auslogic (scheduling and background), Defraggler (for files), Puran Defrag (boot time).

You forgot to mention which operating system you use.
If your using Windows 7, the built in defrag program does an excellent job.

+1

I use Defraggler (for files) on XP Pro only occasionally but I use Puran Defrag (boot time) monthly if I remember.
