Eh, have you ever worked on a not really 110% reliable connection, let alone dial-up? Yeah, explorer.exe is plain unusable for any serious FTP work, I mean it. It is especially unfit for uploading full memory dumps or any other large file transfers. Just a day or two ago someone has been complaining about being unable to upload the dump this way, getting disconnected over and over again.
I have been on dial-up for more years than I care to remember and have only had broadband for a little over 6 months. When I had a problem even if resume was supported a kernel dump upload (even if zipped) at 650MB+ could never be entertained on dial-up.
My dial-up connection had a 2 hour kick off (you could reconnect again if you got a line) and that would have managed just about 15-18MB at 33Kbps max upload speed. So for that guess what I had to do, I copied it to CD and mailed it to Vlk. So resumption would have been an absolute waste of time on dial-up for a very large file.
Don’t lose sight of what this topic is about uploading a single dump file to avast.
FileZilla
+1 The best, imo.
Sad little dinosaur me - I actually found that using explorer in windows 7 was a doddle… Never could get any other FTP programme to work properly ;D But, I am knocking on a bit
I guess all you need is to check the passive mode checkbox in any of those “non-working” clients.

Yeah, right.
Being passive would be an asset in a lot of threads on this forum. ;D

OT, but true.

Terminology can be a pain in the rear as when connecting to avast.com/incoming they have anonymous ftp and an ftp program mentions both passive and anonymous connections. If I paste the ftp link into firefox and hit Enter FireFTP kicks in and does the connection automatically - then again you don’t use firefox ;D. But if manually setting it up it could be a little daunting.
