I am sorry, but I have used Avast Free for many years and in that time restore points has not worked most of the time and I never knew why. However lately I found out that it is Avast that is preventing Windows restore from working.
So now I use AVG free just so I can have Windows Restore work as it is supposed to. I really want to use Avast but restore is more important.
I am pleading. “Please allow Windows Restore Points to restore the operating system to a previous point” Why is that so hard to do.
System Restore works just fine with AVG free, Avira free , and Panda free. All top rates AV’s. I am done with Avast until it is fixed

What operating system and what version of Avast ???
When using system restore it can have an impact on avast, have you tried disabling the avast self-defence module before using system restore ?
Bob’s question about what avast version is certainly relevant as earlier versions of avast were less tolerant to system restore, recent ones less so. But if experiencing a problem disabling the avast self-defence module before using system restore, is usually enough. Don’t forget to enable it again after using system restore.
If you are using Windows 10, System Restore is turned off by default.
