Hi, I have Avast Pro on my Windows 7 PC, and lately it has not been starting. I have tried almost everything to get it working, but in a last attempt I am going to restore the factory defaults. Will restoring factory settings remove my subscription to the service, as I do not intend to pay for it again until the subscription is over.
No, it won’t.
But I suggest to try this first…
Repair avast:
- Control Panel - Add/Remove programs - avast!
- Scroll down and click on ‘Repair’.
- Follow instructions.
If you do follow through with a factory restore make sure you uninstall the preinstalled av that comes with your system when you bought it reboot and then run the vendors removal tool to get rid of the leftovers http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ and reboot again before reinstalling avast, then reinsert your licence file that you recieved in your email.
@craigb,
I think the user meant to reset the settings in avast (only) to factory defaults using avast main GUI → settings → troubleshooting → factory defaults.
What you seem to give advice to is if the user were to return his whole system to factory defaults (not just avast), which is a very different (unneeded) thing.
