restricted websites/links/popup links..ect (avast pro 4.6)

hi there, i have just purchased avast antivirus pro 4.6 since i got rid of norton antivirus 2004 pro and i have had nothing but problems. i am running zonealarm too. may i state if i disable BOTH progs then my problem still persists.

basically… Some links/popup links…ect dont work. really strange things such as on ebay theres a small search bar on the top right, that has dissapeared. It lets me write a new topic on vbulletin boards lets me write a title but wont let me write in the big box below. things like http://score.planetfootball.com/ that link dont work when i click on any of the boxes, www.comet.co.uk that link dont work right either it wont let me view prices, or once clicked on a item it wont let me purchase anything. more or less every website dont work right in some way. ive disbaled avast AND zonealarm and its still the same, though im 110% sure its avast causing it. i thought i need to download java.com but i went there and it says i have the latest version. what could it be ? ive not touched my internet security settings and thats all fine. only happened since i downloaded avast, also had this problem on my old laptop as soon as i downloaded AVG free edition. so 110% sure its the antivirus software at fault. ive checked the settings and tried disabling a few things but still no luck…how do i overcome this issue?

Why are you so sure about the innocence of the firewall? ;D
Well, if you disable the privacy features of ZoneAlarm Pro and set the compatibility mode of avast! with ZA (see ‘Settings’ in my signature, section [WebShield] for details.
Boot.
What will you get?
Another converted from NAV 8)

Avast doesn’t block anything, unless you’ve told it to in the web sheild, you can check this by clicking the A in your taskbar. (Left clicking, once.)
Some instructions:

(Click what’s in the circle, on your computer.)
Then click url blocking, make sure there’s nothing that you want in there.

because i completely shut it down then erased it off my pc, then re installed it. i would erase avast off my pc but i know its at fault…

dont really know what your telling me to do mate, im not that clued up on settings on progs…

url blocking is not enabled…

Is it now installed or not?
You did not answer my first questions…

You should take a time to set both them to work. Other users use avast! and ZA pro without a problem.
Install ZA first. Boot. Then install avast! and answer the question about ZA compatibility.
Let us know what happens.

ok zonealarm gone again and now avast is gone. im still with this problem…

what the hell could it be? really bugging me now, i cant even book my little brothers driving test online because of this. he needs it booked asap…

I won’t want nothing asap … it could be frustrating…
Well, it’s not the antivirus and it’s not the firewall.
I bet on NAV (not correctly uninstalled). See Symantec site to download a specific tool for this.
Other possibility, changed/messed settings of the browser.
Did you uninstall AVG too?

Be patient… 8)

Tech,

i actually deleted something in my control panel saying ‘SYMANTEC’ i thought it was linked to my old antivirus (norton) so i guess thats the prob. can you point me in the right direction on the symantec site as to what i need to download again?

thanks

Maybe you just deleted the Live Update from NAV…
But you were working in dangerous things… Editing the Registry, what did you do?

See: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=12169.0
Read: Removing Norton
See How important is it to completely remove Norton? topic.

Or, in other words:

  1. Browse the Symantec website and download the specific uninstall tool for NAV.
It will clean trash left behing by NAV (files, registry keys). You need this to proper working with avast.

  2. After that, you can try to repair your avast! installation.
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

  3. You can delete folders/files under either ‘Norton’ or ‘Symantec’ folder, the others under Liveupdate folders and ApplicationData…

  4. On Registry, well good Registry Cleaners could do some work.
But, for me, the only thing I would worry about is the VDD keys. You must have the following entry there:
    C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswMonVd.dll
Can you post the contents of these Windows Registry keys in your system?
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet004\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD

Just a last question, did you realy buy avast! Pro?

all is working now, thanks for help.

Can you please post what did you do to solve… This could help the others in similar problems.

sure…

i did as you said.
popped to the symantec website searched for a sort of NAV removal tool. downloaded that and started to run it, lasted about 2 seconds then i deleted that prog, restarted pc. and bingo everything working again. so it was my old instal of norton antivirus 2004 pro not properly deleted/uninstalled, it also was preventing me to goto my system restore.

anyway…zonealarm and avast pro all fully installed again.

im sure someone will get this problem in the future so i hope this helps them.

thanks again.

This is why we hate Symantec products uninstall… They all left trash behind :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks for posting. Enjoy avast and come to forums to help the others
