results of a scan

what do i do with the results of a scan…do i let them stack up in to the thousands or is there a way to delete them as a batch…??? thanks

Are you using the Home version?
Only the last results will be stored.

In Professional version, there is a setting for automatic removal of old scaning results (called Sessions there).

i am using home version…there are over 750 items that are in the results of scan section…will they carry over and be added to results of next scan or will the next scan be only one shown

The items will be included in the next scan IF you does not delete them. The results won’t be added (appended), just they will be there.
Home version does not store old reports, only the last one.

You can change your report settings into Program settings > Report file
This way you can take control over which files will appear in the report.

The results are probably indicating a lot of files that can’t be scanned for many reasons this is legitimate, password protected, etc. The list will probably be the same because the reasons for there inclusion are likely to be the same, but as Tech said the next scan results are not appended.

Many programs (usually security based ones) password protect their files for legitimate reasons such as AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy, there are others.

When you run scans with the above programs and you delete harmful entries that they detect, a copy is kept (in quarantine/restore/backup) in case you need to reverse what you did. These are usually password protected, you should do some housekeeping and delete old backup/recovery/quarantine entries (older than two weeks or so), this will reduce the numbers of files that can’t be scanned.

By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to.

Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.

If it’s a program you installed yourself, and expect, just silently ignore it.

Luke, Its hard to ignore 750 items in the scan results and have to be checked to see why they are in the scan results. Otherwise why bother with a scan in the first place if you are going to ignore everything.
