Revo Uninstaller Pro

Just come across a program called Revo Uninstaller Pro. I am just wondering if anyone else uses this as i cannot really see the point? It states that it removes programs easily along with all traces. But, if i want to do that i will just use Add/Remove programs using Windows then use CCleaner to remove any traces left behind.

Is there any real benefit of using Revo?

I (and a lot of other users) use the freeware version.
For normal programs, it does a very good job (better than Windows + CCleaner).
For antivirus, firewall, avast backup, and other “deep inside” programs and the ones which require a boot to uninstall, it can mess things.

No, imo.

I have never found this to be of any benefit over A) windows add remove programs a.k.a. programs and features and B) CCleaner after that. In all my time using windows I have never needed such a tool.

The problem I’ve always run into with these generic uninstallers is that they
attempt to be to good at what they do.
They try to remove everything the program they uninstalled used even if that
means killing other programs that may be using a shared dll or other file.

The problem is that in most cases it may take month to discover that another program
has been affected.
I personally don’t use Revo or any other 3rd party uninstaller.

Indeed this could happen.
For instance, at Advanced level, Revo free listed all avast antivirus registry keys when I was uninstalling avast backup.

That’s why, although I indeed use it, I don’t recommend “cleaners” (not even CCleaner) for general use. I use them for specific goals.

When I run Revo, I never let it delete automatically. I review exactly each item (files, folders and registry keys) and select exactly what I agree to be really related and dependant on the program being removed.

In the case, for example, of Avast with several different programs, I would review the results / suggestions of Revo and I would select only the items that I am completely sure I want and need to remove, leaving the other boxes unchecked.

In case I have any doubt, I don’t delete the item, but I take note about it so to investigate it afterwards if necessary / wanted.

Me too.

Hmmm interesting and thanks for all your opinions.

I think i shall stick to Windows Add/Remove programs ;D

You’re welcome…!
