I tried to scan an iso file but when I right click on it and ask avast! to scan, it always comes up with zero files scanned in zero seconds. I had iso files excluded in the full scan so I deleted that exclusion thinking that might help but avast! still refuses to scan iso files even though I have all packers checked in the settings of the right click scan . Zip files are scanned with no problem. I also unchecked use persistent cache in setting and that did not work either. I even created an iso file with a number of files and tried a right click scan which did not work.
Okay, I found out what the problem was. Even though I deleted the iso exclusion in the full scan and right click scan, I forgot about the global settings. In there, I had iso files excluded and that prevented me from scanning even though iso files were not excluded in the individual scan settings. Maybe this will help somebody else.
Another thing that I noticed doing right click scans is that sometimes a progress bar will be shown and sometimes not. Maybe this is related to the file size. I am not sure. If there is a progress bar, a voice will tell the scan is finished. No progress bar, no voice.
First there will be a delay whilst avast works out roughly what has to be scanned (initialising) so it can work out any progress, etc. Now if there are a lot of files or a large archive file to be scanned then the progress bar would have time to slowly progress.
If however, there isn’t much to be scanned or the file is small by the time the initialising is done the scan would be complete very soon or immediately after that so you effectively wouldn’t see any progress.
